SCHOOLS,MUSEUMS & LIBRARIES

'Through Children's Eyes' - successfully tested in Sunderland - a music and literacy project in support of my children's history books on Sunderland and Northumberland covering outline history of the particular area in story and song in one session- upper primary.

From January 2012 to August my writing and research will also be sport and Olympic related. I am happy to follow these up as school projects. You can read of my expertise in sport and Olympic history elsewhere on the site

I would also like to offer the following projects in 2012

Back up to the online and downloadable Singing Histories Sunderland which I was elemental in producing. (Google or contact Sunderland Schools Music Service if unaware of this provision). This might lead to a project following the River Wear from its mouth inland with topics such as;

  1. L S Lowry and his sea/river paintings
  2. Spottee the hermit of Sunderland and his Roker cave
  3. The fishing industry
  4. The shipbuilding industry and maritime trade
  5. Bede, Biscop and St Peter's monastery and church
  6. The Wear Bridge
  7. Development of the railway
  8. Coal mining industry  ( Many different projects)
  9. Sport - football and boat racing
  10. The keelmen
  11. Jack Crawford, the hero and the river
  12. Radical Jack Lambton and Penshaw Monument.
  13. Washington and its links to the river.
  14. The legend of the Lambton Worm

Each of these can be treated as separate projects

Other projects, most of which work at KS2, possibly at KS1 and whole school assemblies covering literacy, history and music in particular

  • When the Northern Saints - an ongoing, interactive and creative project based on the saints from Whitby to Berwick - many singable songs - educational and fun too. Songs available online from Sunderland Schools Music Service.
  • Sport and the Body - also ongoing musical, interactive and creative.
  • Working on the Railway - a whole school assembly ( 30 to 40 minutes) - with Keith as both historian and railway navvy dealing with early railway history - music and song - suitable for KS1 and KS2.
